Welcome! My name is RJ and welcome to my workshop! One of my big goals this year has been to spend less time on my phone and social media and more time going back into doing projects and creating things. I've really been in a creative and general life rutt and nothing was really inspiring me. I really wasn't enjoying my job but didn't have the portfolio or even the motivation to hunt for a proper full time job (I currently work in retail but my goal has always been to work in video games, getting hired as a junior at the moment however is really difficult) and generally felt that outside of spending time with my friends and my partner I wasn't doing much of anything. So I started by trying to actively consume more media. I've been going to the last video rental store in my city for the last year and loved all the weird and wonderful movies I've discovered through it. I've also started a movie club with my friends, finally going to see things in cinema I always say I'm going to see but never do. I've been focusing on properly listening to albums top to bottom as apposed to putting my liked songs on in the background and I've been really getting back into alt subcultures like goth and emo and back into diy. Currently I'm working on upcycling a bunch of new clothes and working on a series of 3D environments for a currently unreleased and unannounced video game. This website is the next part of this project! I saw a bunch of videos on cyberdecks and then the indie web and neocities and thought why not give it a shot! I used to be proficient in python and a bit of java in high school, plus I'm about to pivot into graphic design work and I'm sure html would be an incredibly useful skill to have. So this is going to be where I document all the projects I'm working on. It'll be one part personal to do list, one part blog, one place simply somewhere to show off what I'm making and how I made it! It's very work in progress as I learn html but I hope you enjoy looking around!
